Two teams, made up of Strikers players ages 13-14, just finished their French tour, completing an eight-day trip to France and competing in the Tournoi International de Guerledan. The first few days of the trip aimed to get ready for the competition. As a result, the Strikers players played in a set of friendlies against local clubs (Stade Pontivy; Noyal Pontivy) and also some international clubs (Avai FC from Brazil; Riga Afa Olaine from Latvia).
The girls dominated the competition but fell short of qualifying for the quarterfinals (seven wins, two losses and one tie). The team finished 12th in the competition (out of 48). This was the highest a girls team from the USA has ever finished in this prestigious event. The highlight of the tournament was their 0-0 tie against PSG in front of 300 spectators (PSG ended up winning the tournament). The girls only gave up two goals the whole weekend and found the back of the net over 15 times.
The boys finished 42nd overall (out of 128 teams). The team earned five shutouts on Saturday and ended up with three wins, three ties and three losses. Alex Stell led the way as the top scorer for the boys.
To conclude the trip, players and staff enjoyed a couple of days of sightseeing at Vannes, Mont Saint Michel and at la Pointe du Grouin.
"It was once again a very successful experience abroad for our players and staff and a fantastic opportunity to grow. The combination of the girl’s results, the level of competition encountered, the interactions with so many foreign players, the weather, the food and sightseeing will definitely leave the players with memories for a lifetime."
The trip finished with two days of sightseeing including excursions to Mont. St. Michel, Normandy, and Vannes.
We look forward to taking more teams next year!
