Strikers Rugby Announces Affiliation with James River Rugby Football Club

Richmond Strikers Youth Rugby is excited to announce our affiliation with James River Rugby Football Club. James River Rugby fields both men and women adult rugby teams. The men’s club is entering its 50th anniversary season, while the women’s team was established almost 20 years ago.

Richmond Strikers Youth Rugby, James River Strikers Men's Rugby Football Club, and James River Strikers Women's Rugby Football Club will collectively be known as Strikers Rugby.

Through this affiliation, the Strikers Rugby programs commit to working together to grow and promote the sport of rugby throughout the greater Richmond area.

“Our goal has been to develop quality rugby programming and to grow the game throughout the Richmond area since establishing Strikers Youth Rugby in 2017. We believe that the addition of James River Rugby’s men and women’s programs will further our commitment towards that goal ,” Blaze Byrd, Richmond Strikers Director of Rugby, said about the affiliation. “We look forward to working with James River and offering rugby to all age groups from preschoolers playing touch rugby all the way to senior level competitive rugby. James River Strikers Rugby will also welcome and enable youth players to continue competitive rugby beyond their high school and college years.”

“Growing the sport of rugby is the ultimate goal. Rugby has a unique culture that thrives on unity, and collectively we create a bigger, stronger community that welcomes players of all ages, all skill levels and all athletic abilities,” says James River Women’s Rugby President, Rachael Quinlan.

“Continuing to build and develop already successful youth rugby programs will lead to highly competitive senior level rugby in the Richmond area. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding youth rugby program to join and look forward to working together towards long term rugby success,” added Patrick Grover, President of James River Men’s Rugby.

James River Strikers Rugby will begin their competitive 15s season with practices next month and games beginning in September. The men and women teams will also be touring Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Wales in September to play international matches as part of their 50th Anniversary Celebration.
