Richmond Strikers Rugby State Tournament Recap - Spring 2019

This past weekend, Richmond Strikers Rugby played in the Rugby Virginia state tournament at River City Sportsplex in Midlothian, VA. Strikers Rugby were represented in seven divisions:

  • 3rd & 4th Grade Boys
  • 5th & 6th Grade Boys
  • 7th & 8th Grade Boys
  • High School Junior Boys Varsity
  • High School Girls Varsity (combined with Prince William and Vienna)
  • High School Boys Varsity (combined with Legion)
  • 4 Middle School Girls

The 5th and 6th grade team, the boys junior varsity and the high school girls’ team all took home 2nd place! The high school boys’ varsity team were the plate winners which placed them third in the state while the 7th & 8th grade team were the bowl winners which placed them fifth in the state. The 3rd and 4th grade team just missed some hardware with their 4th place finish. In addition to the successful team efforts the Strikers had this past weekend, one of our middle school girls players took home her second consecutive tournament MVP, Hannah Johnson. 

With the spring season officially over, the Strikers look forward to a couple of weeks off before diving into the summer season. Registration is now open for both tag and tackle.  Practice information for the upcoming season is below. The summer game schedule is still TBD, but games will be on Saturdays throughout June and July. 

Summer Practice Schedule:
TAG: Begins Tuesday, May 28
Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6-7:30 pm

TACKLE: Begins Tuesday, June 4
Tuesdays & Thursdays
3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, 7th & 8th - 6 to 7:30 PM
MS/HS Girls & HS Boys - 7:30 to 9 PM

All practices will be at Capital Park.
