Richmond Strikers Announce the Addition of Football

The Richmond Strikers are excited to announce the addition of Strikers Football to their athletic platform. The basis of the football program is designed around an educational approach to teach the game of football that translates into college and NFL football concepts.

Strikers Football will begin with an initial offering of recreational flag football in the Fall of 2019 played indoors on Sports Reality’s two turf fields. The program is designed to allow players to evolve from recreation to a travel program through a Football Development Program aimed at individual player improvement.

In addition to the flag football programs, Strikers Football athletes will have access to Sports Reality’s performance training programs that enhance strength, speed, and agility.

Curriculum for the Football Program will be designed and taught by Jeff Gonos and Sam Rogers.  Gonos, a former player, coach, and executive of the NFL, NFL Europe, and the Arena Football League will serve as the Director of Strikers Football alongside Strikers Director of Coaching Sam Rogers. Rogers, a Hanover County native, played fullback at Virginia Tech before being drafted in the 6th round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Rogers later signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2018 before returning to Hanover to continue his training at Sports Reality in Mechanicsville.

“We have identified an educational gap in the youth football community, and developed a curriculum to educate coaches and players on real football concepts through practice plans, playbooks, applications, and a virtual coaching portal,” stated Rogers. “Our singular mission is to develop football players and coaches through our experiences in youth, high school, collegiate, and professional football.”

Registration for Fall Recreation Flag Football season will begin today with games kicking off September 9th.  All games will be played Friday nights from 6-9:30pm under the lights at Sports Reality and welcome boys and girls grades Kindergarten through 8th.

Rogers stated, “Playing Friday nights is a tradition for High School Football, so we try to emulate that type of experience for our athletes. It also provides access for many multi-sport kids who may be involved in other sports as we practice and play on the same night so the time commitment on the recreational level is minimal.”
