Friday Night Soccer

Friday Night Soccer begins March 27th...

  1. U9,U10, U11 at Longdale     6-7 pm

    • “Using the game to teach” format, with 4 v 4 games as the focus

    • The kids will be asked to solve soccer problems by playing the game

    • Coaching points and instruction will be done during breaks

    • Children will play with players who have been performing at a similar level during the prior week of practice

    • Coaches will be working closely with Carlos and Matt and deciding together who gets selected each week

    • Players/Parents will be notified if they have been selected to participate

    • The remaining U9, U10 and U11 players will be encouraged to participate in free play at Striker Park

    • REMEMBER: Please do not read anything into the weekly selections. It is just a snapshot of how well kids have done that particular week and has nothing to do with future team selections.

  1. U9 to U11 and U12 to U18 FREE PLAY at Striker Park     5-6:30 pm

    • Staff will supervise for safety  but within “free play” format

    • Staff will welcome the players and explain the ground rules but will refrain from structuring the experience

    • Player organized

    • In the “free-play” format, some of the teammates may be older or younger, male and female

    • Players are encouraged to take responsibility for the social dynamics of this unstructured situation.  For example, who will emerge as the leader(s); what will each players role be; how will the players establish and then enforce the rules of the game?

    • Our hope is that a non-adult environment without adult evaluation or direction will foster self reliance, spontaneity, free expression, independence, problem solving skills, conflict resolution and a willingness for trial and error.

Free play Expectations

Player Expectations

  • Players are expected to choose what they do at free play. It’s up to them how they spend their time and what ‘game’ they get involved in (join in a 6 v 6 game, organize a game, world cup, shooting)

Parents Expectations

  • It is expected that the child decides whether or not to attend free play, not the parents

  • Feel free to ‘strategize’ with your child prior to the free play on how he or she can get into a game, how to spend their time……once they are out there it is down to them

Staff Expectations

  • Staff will be there to provide pennies, cones and to assist in moving goals

  • They will also make sure everyone is safe and step in if someone gets hurt

  • There will be no instruction of what to do…..this is the kids time to ‘sort it out’ and ‘get it going’ by themselves
