Richmond Strikers Coaching Slate 2009/2010

 

Strikers bring in top class coaches for upcoming season; new additions include a current Division 1 college coach, former professional players, national team experience and college standouts

 

We are very excited to announce our coaching slate for the 2009/2010 travel season. New additions to the staff include Peter Albright, Walter Bustamante, Danny Karbassiyoon, Greg Simmonds and the return of Caleb Stoddart.

 

Peter Albright, the Head Women’s Coach at the University of Richmond for the past 12 seasons, comes in to coach one of our U11 Premier Girls team.  Peter is currently ranked among the nation's active college coaches with the most wins in the women's game.  Peter will be bringing his vast experience and knowledge to the club and will be a welcome addition to our coaching staff. Peter holds a USSF A License.

 

Walter Bustamante, a native of Peru, will be working with our ADP Boys pool and our U11 Premier Boys team.  Walter received All American accolades at Long Island University as well as playing professionally with Alianza (Peru), Universitadio De Deportes (Peru) and New York Metrostars. Walter currently coaches at Arsenal World Class Soccer Club in New Jersey and holds the NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma.

 

Danny Karbassiyoon, a former USA youth national team player hails from Roanoke Virginia.  As a player, Danny was one of our country’s top talents coming out of high school in the early 2000’s.  Danny was signed by Arsene Wenger in 2003 and played for Arsenal FC in the English Premiership. Danny also had spells with Ipswich Town and Burnley before a knee injury ended his career.  Danny has been helping our U13 and U14 boys this year and will continue to share his experience with all ages during the fall season. Danny is holds a USSF C License and is currently a North American player scout for Arsenal FC.

 

Greg Simmonds, an integral part of the Futsal phenomenon at U-TURN, is coming on board with our ADP Boys pool. Simmonds, a former pro player with several A league clubs including the Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers, is the current Director of Soccer at U Turn. Greg has a USSF B License.  Simmonds also played in the MLS with Miami Fusion and DC United. He also went on to gain 5 caps for the  Jamaica Full National Team.

 

Caleb Stoddart, a former Richmond Striker player who grew up in the Charlottesville area, returns to the club for his second stint as a coach.  Caleb played four years at The College of William & Mary and started the most games in the programs history. Caleb captained the Tribe team his senior year and received conference and regional honors. Caleb also was The College of William and Mary Athlete of the year in 2001. Caleb will be working with our ADP Boys pool. Caleb has a USSF D License

Welcome to the Richmond Strikers! The Richmond Strikers Soccer Club is a 501C(3) non-profit corporation and has been providing soccer programs in Richmond for 26 years. Over the years, Strikers has grown to be the area’s largest non-profit club offering a variety of soccer programs for all ages. In March 2006, the Richmond Strikers merged with VA CASL creating one of the largest clubs in Virginia and the nation, and an organization that serves a broad geographic range covering the western and eastern parts of Richmond . Striker Park , located in the heart of Short Pump, is one of the country’s top youth soccer facilities and home to a state-of-the-art Nike turf field. Plans are underway to develop another soccer complex in the eastern part of Richmond on land that was donated to the Strikers. Strikers host several large annual tournaments including the prestigious Jefferson Cup which brings in over $8 million to the Richmond area. For all its accomplishments, the Richmond Strikers has been named one of 45 Nike Premier Clubs in America
